SUMMARY:20th Meeting of the IUCN SSC: GOOSE SPECIALIST GROUP
DESCRIPTION:We kindly invite you to participate in 20th meeting of the Goose Specialist Group of IUCN’s Species Survival Commission\, which will be held on 16-18 August 2023 in Ulaanbaatar\, Mongolia. The Organizing Committee hopes that goose specialists from all around the world will be participating in this important meeting. Also\, our invited keynote speakers will be renowned goose and waterbird specialists from Asia\, Europe\, and North America. After the meeting\, there will be a field trip to Ugii Lake\, which is an important site for breeding\, moulting\, and migrating swan goose and bar-headed goose in west-central Mongolia. It is a well-known Ramsar site\, Important Bird Area\, and East Asia-Australasian Flyway Site. Our local organizing committee in Mongolia will be very happy to welcome you to the Land of Blue Sky! \nWe invite all participants to submit their oral and poster presentations on various topics about goose populations around the world such as impact of climate change on goose populations\, movement and migration\, reproduction ecology\, conservation\, disease\, eco-physiology\, and management of waterfowl. Other topics related to geese ecology\, research\, and threats are also welcome. Proposals for organizing special symposia\, workshops and round table discussions are welcome till January 20\, 2023. \nThe meeting will be hosted by the Wildlife science and conservation center of Mongolia with support from Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia and the IUCN SSC Goose Specialist Group. \nCall for abstracts: gsg20conference@gmail.com

SUMMARY:European Conference on Ecological Modelling: ecological modeling for transformation
DESCRIPTION:In a world where biodiversity and ecosystem services are at high risk\, business as usual is no longer possible. Transformation of how societies deal with natural resources is much needed\, but requires a better understanding of how ecological and social-ecological systems respond to change and human intervention. Ecological modeling thus needs to aim at predicting the response to change and to address multiple scales in time\, space and organization that are relevant for management. \nThe 9th European Conference on Ecological Modelling\, ECEM 2023\, welcomes contributions that directly or indirectly support transformation. This includes strategies and models that focus on improving one or more of the following aspects: representation of response mechanisms\, multi-criteria model evaluation\, model-data fusion\, sensitivity and robustness analyses\, upscaling and transferability to new regions\, link to management scenarios\, social-ecological systems\, transparency and reproducibility\, implementation and testing of theories and concepts\, and multi-modeling synthesis. In general\, any contribution to advancing ecological modeling is welcome. \nCall for abstracts: https://ecem23.eu/callforabstracts/
